Presently there are 3 different golf courses in the Azores, one in Terceira and two in S. Miguel. Another golf course is under construction in Pico and a project is underway for a golf course in Faial.
The newest course is in Batalha along the northern coast of the island of São Miguel, about ten minutes from Ponta Delgada. It consists of 27 holes, with long “fairways” and excellent “greens”. Beautiful views of the north coast of the island highlight the blue of the Atlantic ocean and the contrasting beautiful green pastures. Batalha opened its new 9 holes to the public in 2003 completing a project which has made it one of the largest golf courses in Portugal. It also offers a Club-house with an indoor area of 3.000 square metres. It houses a private bar, and restaurante, a public bar a luxurious restaurant, a conference rooms for 300 people and a Pro-Shop. Batalha also has putting greens, driving range and a chipping area.
- “Furnas Golf Course” is the Azorean golfers’ favourite course and anyone’s’ who admires rolling green pastures surrounded by statuesque “criptomérias”, where you breathe the purest and most refreshing air. “Furnas Golf Course” started at 9 holes and later extended to 18, the first 9 designed by “Mackenzie Ross” and the other 9 by “Cameron and Powell”. It also has a Club-house with bar, Restaurant, Pro-Shop and a room for TV and Video, 2 putting greens, a practice tee and chipping area.
The “Terceira Golf Course”, offers, tennis courts, “Club House and Storage” a Bar, Restaurant and Pro Shop with varied products imported from the USA.
